- 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
- ½ cup butter, salted or unsalted
- ½ cup heavy cream or milk, warmed
- 1 tsp salt, to taste
- ½ tsp black pepper, freshly ground
Instructions
- Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold salted water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
- Drain potatoes and return to the pot. Mash to desired consistency.
- Add warmed cream/milk and butter. Whisk until smooth, but avoid overmixing.
- Season generously with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust as needed.
Notes
- For extra fluffy mashed potatoes, use a ricer.
- Don’t overmix, as this can make the potatoes gummy.
- Warm the cream/milk before adding for a smoother consistency.
- Get creative with variations! Add roasted garlic, fresh herbs, or cheese.
